VIS 125GHistory of Socially Engaged Art
This course will present an overview of socially engaged art in the modern era. We will explore the historical roots of these practices in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the new forms of activist art that emerged during the 1960s. We will also explore the growth of engaged art produced in conjunction with new movements for social and economic justice since the 1990s. Students may not receive credit for both VIS 125G and VIS 125GR.
