GPPS 452Quantitative Analysis of Public Opinion and Electoral Choices

4 units · GPPS · UC San Diego

This course is an introduction to the quantitative study of how political preferences are aggregated and how political elites choose where and how to campaign. In addition to studying how people speak about preferences, we pay particular attention to the technical side of electioneering, polling, the design of districts and gerrymandering, and other institutional features of elections that have a direct impact on citizen views of representation. Methods of studying these phenomena are critically assessed.
