ANTH 46Islamophobia is Racism
This course interrogates global anti-Muslim racism and offers instead a deep engagement with Islamic thought and practice to better understand the multifaceted nature of this religious tradition, which accounts for approximately a quarter of the world’s population, from Jakarta to San Diego. Drawing on historical and anthropological writing on religion, this course focuses on how Islam is lived and experienced in different parts of the world and how we can combat anti-Muslim racism.
